In 1962, Max Moody became president of the Honolulu Stake of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.  He has been an active and devoted member of the Mormon Church since joining it in 1923.

The company’s most important contract of 1962-63 was for the construction of the Geophysics Building at the University of Hawaii.  The contract price was $1,868,540.00 for this attractive addition to the campus.  Other contracts for this period were Laie Village sewer and drainage projects for Zion Securities Corp., Hauiki Housing Project for the Hawaii Housing Authority, and a parking structure for the Honolulu Civic Center.

Through the years Ross gained experience and was eventually able, with the aid of many good people, to relieve his father of the day to day operations.  He had experienced the ups and downs of contracting.  In an effort to dull the economic effects of slow periods, leasehold properties were acquired, and warehouses were built.  This was a successful program and was continued by Lyle Moody who was eventually able, through real estate transactions, to convert the "investments" into new projects on fee simple land.  Soon Walker-Moody had tenants occupying the properties.

Noteworthy projects for 1964-65 included the multimillion dollar Lihue Shopping Center on Kauai, a half million dollar Stran-Steel Post Exchange at Fort Shafter, Marian Towers - - a 16 story apartment condominium on Ala Wai Boulevard, a new building for Honolulu Federal Savings and Loan, the FAA Building in Waikiki, a Boys’ Dining Hall at the Kamehameha Schools, and several sewer projects.

In 1965, Walker-Moody Construction Co., Ltd. took over the Molokai Quarry at Kaunakakai.  It sold No. 2 and No. 3 fine and course, basecourse, volcanic cinders, and beach sand which sold for $4.80 a ton at that time.  As a side operation to the quarry was equipment rental.  In 1969, the operation was sold.

Reynolds Metals Company Can Manufacturing Plant

Lyle Ross Moody was born on May 1, 1956 to Ross and Marian Moody in Honolulu, Hawaii.  At a young age Lyle was always interested in camping and the outdoors.  He followed his father Ross all over the Hawaiian Islands exploring remote places.  In 1971, Lyle obtained the rank of Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America.

After graduating from Kalani High School on Oahu in 1975, Lyle left for Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah.  It was his first long term experience away from the islands and his family.  He then was called to serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints for two years in the Seattle Washington Mission.

When he returned, he married Dawna Lee Brink of Monroe, Washington and they both went back to Provo, Utah to complete college.  Lyle graduated with a bachelors degree in Construction Management, and they moved back to Hawaii in 1982.  Lyle then went to work for his father at Walker-Moody Construction  Co., Ltd. full time.

Lyle's first office was a 6 l.f. x 10 l.f. closet surrounded by bulletproof glass which was taken from an old bank project.  It was located in the middle of all of the action and next to the plans table.  Ross told Lyle to listen and watch what everyone did and that it would take a good ten years for him to catch on.

Walker-Moody Construction Co., Ltd. purchased several lots in Mokuleia which had quite a bit of sand on them.  Through the 1980's they provided approximately 50,000 tons per year of good beach sand to the hotels in Waikiki Beach, concrete plants, and all of the lagoons on the west beach area.
